Size matters

My husband bought us some macaroons for tea and I took a picture of the life-size edible macaroons with my miniature macaroon models. For your information, the real macaroons are an assortment of vanilla, mocha and chocolate flavours and they come freshly baked from a Belgian bakery.

My 1:3 scale pastel macaroons look so tiny in comparison! They all look delicious though, despite their size.

Third scale miniatures are perfect for double-jointed dolls such as the Japanese Super Dolfie (SD).

Japanese Professional Hobby Tools

I had to order these from Japan and it is so worth it! These are part of Tamiya Decoration Series. They are great for giving that extra fine detailing into model foods.

A Sweet Inspiration

Most of my creations are imitations of real yummy food. I would buy an eclair and study every inch before I start recreating one in miniature form. I believe it's the best way of getting a realistic model of the real thing. I try my best to recreate the colours by customising my own to fit.

This practice has been great and I'm quite satisfied with my modelling so far. I'm also quite fond of Japanese food miniatures, especially from a brand called re-ment. I used to collect them but it's quite rare to find them here in the UK.

They are made in 1:6 (playscale) scale which is my favourite size for food miniatures. You can actually 'play' with these as they are not too tiny. Unlike polymer clay models that I make, these are all plastic and HAND-PAINTED! They come in brilliant packaging and sets to collect.

That's what I call, a sweet inspiration.

Runner up for Hobbycraft 'Make of the month'

I received an email this morning from Hobbycraft telling me that I was a runner up for their October Make of the Month competition. I was so surprised that I had even won anything in the first place since there were at least more than 250 entries from all over the UK. It wasn't easy going against expert knitters, artists, professional cake designers and other competition.

Thank you Hobbycraft for choosing me as one of your finalists. It is an honor.
